Jul 16, 2026
MINUTE entry before the Honorable Charles P. Kocoras: Plaintiff's motion for leave to file certain documents under seal [3] is granted. Plaintiff is reminded that personal jurisdiction must be established as to each defendant under the standard set forth in Liu v. Monthly, 170 F.4th 1090 (7th Cir. 2026). Mere evidence of a willingness to ship to Illinois customers is insufficient to establish personal jurisdiction. Additionally, service by email in China is prohibited under the Hague Convention. Kangol LLC v. Hangzhou Chuanyue Silk Imp. & Exp. Co., 177 F.4th 793 (7th Cir. 2026). The Hague Convention does not apply, however, where a defendant's address is not known and the plaintiff has made reasonably diligent efforts to ascertain and verify the defendant's mailing address before deeming it unknown. If it will be Plaintiff's position that the Hague Convention does not apply to any or all of the defendants in the Schedule A, Plaintiff will be required to support that position with legal authority and evidence of reasonable diligence for each defendant.
